Financial assistance for patients who qualify
Prior to starting your treatment, you can meet with a financial counselor who will discuss any financial concerns you may have, and work with you to devise a plan so you can begin your treatments worry-free.
Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute can provide transportation to and from appointments for patients who qualify. A financial counselor or social worker will help you with these needs.
Free classes, programs and services for patients
Patients and survivors are welcome to participate in a wide range of free classes including meditation, yoga, painting, scrapbooking, journaling, cooking and more. These are designed to improve your physical and emotional healing.
Support groups for patients and caregivers
Patients and caregivers can take advantage of support group sessions offered throughout the year – all designed to help you receive support by sharing your experiences with others. A social worker will conduct the meetings that often have a specific topic such as adjusting to cancer, day-to-day life, self-image and family concerns.
Social work services
Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute offers this free service to all patients who have concerns regarding their cancer diagnosis and treatment, and how it will impact their life. A social worker can talk about Advance Directives, the coordination of your care, applying for financial assistance, transportation concerns, your job and short-term or long-term disability, and any other issues you may encounter while undergoing treatment.
A registered dietitian assists cancer patients with their nutrition needs – at no cost. The dietitian will develop individualized nutrition plans to reduce treatment side effects, monitor your nutritional needs during your treatment, and ensure you are eating as healthy as possible to help reduce your risk of cancer recurrence. She also conducts cooking classes. Following treatment, she offers a free, 16-week weight management program.
At Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, we are involved with cancer research studies to help find new and better ways to prevent, detect, diagnose and treat cancer. These trials are in the final stages of a long and careful research process conducted by some of the best medical experts in the world. Clinical trials are critical to improving a cancer’s patient health and quality of life.
