Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute in Flint, MI recognizes the importance of nutrition in supporting a patient’s cancer journey. When patients eat more nutritious foods with adequate protein, calories, vitamins, minerals and plant nutrients they are better able to tolerate their cancer therapy with fewer breaks in treatment and shorter recovery times. An optimal diet may not be possible for patients due to symptoms and treatment side effects. Helping patients nourish themselves as well as possible therefore becomes the overall goal.

A registered dietitian who specializes in cancer nutrition is available for our patients by referral or patient request to provide nutritional guidance according to a patient’s individual needs.

There is no cost for this service.

Anne Cox MS, RD, CSO has been a Registered Dietitian for 29 years obtaining board certification in Oncology Nutrition in 2009 when she joined the GHCI multidisciplinary team.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to accompany our patients through their cancer treatment and to offer ongoing nutrition support as needed to help reduce risk of cancer recurrence. As a former hospice dietitian, quality of life has always been an important focal point for me.  Seeing patients through a holistic lens that takes into account the entire person helps me customize nutritional intervention in accordance to individual needs. I also feel a sense of humility and empowerment as I learn so much from the patients that I care for, as we work together to better their nutritional status. I truly would not want to be doing anything else.” -Anne Cox MS, RD, CSO
